At Everglow Community Care, our people are our business; without whom we wouldn’t be able to help North Queenslanders.

One of those people is Case Manager Melissa Roberts who chatted to us about the work she does, and the passion that drives her.

AUTHOR: Melissa Roberts

Having moved around a lot over the years, I’ve been blessed with some amazing opportunities to grow and expand within my career in the aged care industry.

While I’m currently studying my diploma of Community Services, I also have five years’ experience within the aged care sector. From being a client liaison officer working with the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) down south, to being a Respite Advisor further north, my role as a Case Manager with Everglow Community Care is certainly one that I take a lot of pride in, and brings me immense fulfillment.

My position here affords me the opportunities to work directly with clients and their families to ensure they can be independent, but cared for, in their homes for longer. Through my intricate work within the home care package space, I can provide education and information to people currently going through the process of getting themselves, or their loved ones, into the aged care system.

The education piece is definitely an area in which I take pride; with so much information available for clients, in what is often a very confusing way, means that people don’t always know what they’re signing up for, or where their money is going. By having direct contact with clients, I can alleviate any misinformation and help design a tailored plan for each individual.

I love being able to help others and to give back to the community, we have a rapidly aging population and it requires as much assistance as possible so that we can help them remain living in their home for as long as possible.

However, aside from all the technical parts of my job, the things I truly treasure about my role at Everglow Community Care are the relationships I have with my clients, the stories I get to hear, and the lives I get to touch through my work.
